Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has once again delivered a scathing statement about Barcelona and the state of refereeing in Spain, revisiting the Negreira case.
Details: According to Pérez, four different Barcelona presidents over 17 years paid millions of euros to the vice-president of the referees' committee.
"This situation in itself eliminates any possibility of neutral refereeing," the Real Madrid chief declared.
Pérez emphasized that paying more than 8 million euros to Negreira, regardless of the explanation, is abnormal. He also pointed out that these payments coincided with the most successful period in Barcelona’s history.
The president of the Madrid club posed a rhetorical question:
"Is it normal that several Real Madrid players have won more Champions League titles than La Liga titles? Some have six and only five league championships; most have four. This is not normal."
Pérez also criticized the poor standard of refereeing in Spain, noting that FIFA did not include a single Spanish referee in the list for the most recent Club World Cup.
"This is very sad," the Real Madrid president concluded.
Reminder: Two major investors are ready to acquire 10% of Real Madrid for 1 billion euros.
