57-Year-Old Miura Plans to Enter His 40th Football Season
Japanese forward Kazuyoshi Miura is one of the oldest active professional footballers in the world, and he is not yet ready to end his career.
Details: Reports indicate that the 57-year-old will continue playing for Atlético Suzuka next season. This will mark his 40th season as a professional footballer. Miura is the second-oldest professional player globally, surpassed only by Ukraine’s Mykola Lykhovydov of Real Pharma.
For reference, Miura's playing career began back in 1986. He was the first Japanese footballer to receive the Asian Footballer of the Year award in 1993 before it became an official accolade by the Asian Football Confederation. He is also a 1992 AFC Asian Cup champion.
Reminder: Age 45 is no obstacle for former Uruguayan football star Diego Forlán, who has switched sports and is now trying his hand at tennis at a respectable level.
