4-month-old grandson of ex-Man United defender Steve Bruce dies, nanny arrested
Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce is enduring an unimaginable family tragedy. His 4-month-old grandson has passed away under unknown circumstances, reports The Sun.
Bruce's daughter, Amy, and her husband, Matt Smith, discovered their son, Madison, unresponsive on the morning of October 18. The couple had recently hired a night nanny, a 40-year-old woman, to care for the child.
The nanny has been arrested on suspicion of neglecting her duties. Police are investigating claims that she was distracted by social media at the time and failed to notice that something had gone wrong with the baby. She was later released on bail.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Madison's death is ongoing, including an examination of the suspect’s phone.
Madison was laid to rest on October 29, leaving the family devastated.
"On Tuesday we laid my grandson Madison to rest. It’s been the worst time of my family’s entire lives and is something no family should have to endure. I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the family to thank everyone for the tributes and messages from inside and outside the footballing world," Steve Bruce said in an official statement.
