Liverpool could swoop for one of the breakout stars of the World Cup from a direct rival.

Details: According to Transfer News Live, citing journalist Dave Davis, the Merseysiders are seriously considering a move for Tottenham defender Djed Spence. No official bid has been submitted to the London club yet.

The 25-year-old Englishman can operate on both flanks of the defense, and it’s his versatility that has particularly caught Liverpool’s attention. Following Andrew Robertson’s departure, the club is in need of extra depth across several positions.

Spence also enhanced his reputation with a strong showing for England at the World Cup. The defender featured in eight matches during the tournament and helped secure third place for his team, winning a crucial penalty late on against France.

However, any potential deal won’t come cheap. Tottenham are likely to demand around £40 million for the player. Other clubs are also monitoring Spence, meaning Liverpool face stiff competition.

It’s also worth noting that Transfermarkt values the English defender at €40 million.

Reminder: £40 million for the World Cup hero! Manchester United plotting bold raid on Tottenham.
