30 Colo Colo Fans Detained in Avellaneda Ahead of Libertadores Match Against Racing

Tensions rose ahead of the Copa Libertadores clash between Colo Colo and Racing as 30 fans of the Chilean club were detained near Estadio Presidente Perón in Avellaneda. According to Cooperativa.cl, the arrests occurred on Wednesday after the group violated a CONMEBOL-imposed ban prohibiting their attendance at the match.
The operation was carried out by Buenos Aires police with support from Aprevide, Argentina’s Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport. The agency had previously warned that Colo Colo supporters were barred from entering or gathering near the stadium, citing disciplinary sanctions from earlier incidents.
Local outlet TN reported that those detained were placed at the disposal of Argentine judicial authorities. Aprevide emphasized that preventive detentions could apply until each individual's legal status was reviewed.
The match, part of Group E's fifth round, ended in a 4-0 victory for Racing, further worsening Colo Colo’s position in the competition.
