2027 U20 AFCON qualifiers: Cameroon get off to a winning start at UNIFFAC tournament
The U20 Lions beat Chad 3–0 in their opening match, with Samuel Fonyuy Achu scoring a brace.
Cameroon got off to a winning start on Monday 12 October. The U20 Lions dominated Chad’s Sao at the Olembe Stadium in the opening match of the 2026 UNIFFAC tournament, a qualifier for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The young Cameroonians made the difference thanks to Samuel Fonyuy Achu, who scored a brace. Popess Manguele also distinguished himself by scoring a goal. This convincing victory, has earned the Cameroonian side three valuable points in their very first match.
In Group A, Cameroon will continue their campaign against the Central African Republic in their second match. The U20 Lions will go into this fixture buoyed by the confidence of an opening victory, aiming to build on their strong start to the tournament.
For Chad, this opening defeat immediately complicates the rest of the competition. The Sao will need to pull themselves together quickly if they are to continue their journey in the qualifying tournament for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which is due to take place in Egypt in 2027.
