2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Malawi Beat South Sudan in Group B Opener

Malawi have started their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over South Sudan at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Friday.

The Flames took control of the game in the 20th minute when Adepoju opened the scoring to give Malawi a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.

Malawi continued to press after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 64th minute through L. Njaliwa, putting the hosts in a commanding position.

South Sudan responded with a goal of their own as they looked to fight their way back into the contest. However, Malawi remained composed in the closing stages to protect their lead and secure all three points.
