2027 AFCON Qualifier: Zimbabwe Stage Incredible Comeback Against Sierra Leone

Zimbabwe produced a stunning turnaround to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign with a 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone on Thursday night.

The Warriors looked destined for defeat after finding themselves two goals behind inside the opening 27 minutes. Alie Conteh broke the deadlock in the seventh minute before Sallieu Tarawallie doubled Sierra Leone’s lead.

With Zimbabwe trailing 2-0 at half-time, a comeback looked unlikely. However, the Warriors returned from the dressing room with renewed energy and completely changed the direction of the contest.

Munetsi started the fightback in the 72nd minute, reducing the deficit before Chirewa drew Zimbabwe level just four minutes later.

The momentum had firmly shifted, and Munetsi completed the turnaround with his second goal two minutes before the end of normal time to secure a memorable three points for the Warriors.

Zimbabwe will now prepare for their next qualifier against DR Congo on September 28 at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Sierra Leone, meanwhile, will attempt to respond on the same day when they travel to face Equatorial Guinea.
