2027 AFCON Qualifier: Ghana Suffers 2-0 Defeat to Côte d’Ivoire

Ghana began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign on a disappointing note after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké.

The Elephants took control shortly before half-time when Malick Yalcouyé found the bottom corner with a low strike from outside the box to give the hosts the lead.

Côte d’Ivoire continued to apply pressure after the break and doubled their advantage through Franck Kessié, leaving Ghana with a difficult task of mounting a comeback.

The Black Stars improved as the game progressed and created opportunities in the second half, but they were unable to find a way past the Ivorian defence.

The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from their opening AFCON qualifier, while Côte d’Ivoire take an early advantage in the group.

Ghana will now look to respond when they face The Gambia on September 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
