2025 Arab Cup – Playoffs: Sudan secures its place in the finals

Sudan achieved a remarkable feat this Wednesday in the 2025 Arab Cup playoffs. The Sudanese team overturned a deficit against Lebanon (2-1) and secured their place in the finals of the 2025 Arab Cup.

Despite falling behind and being reduced to ten men early in the match, the men of Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah showed great determination to secure a well-deserved qualification. The match had started perfectly for Lebanon. In the 30th minute, Khalil Khamis opened the scoring with an assist from Mohamad Safwan.

Just before halftime, the turning point of the match came. Mohamad Haidar, the experienced Al-Ahed midfielder, inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net (43rd minute). This own goal has given Sudan renewed hope and confidence.

While the Sudanese returned from the locker room with renewed ambition, their determination finally paid off in the 73rd minute. Yaser Jobak found the net and scored the winning goal, securing the comeback (1-2). Despite being down to ten men, Sudan managed the end of the match with solidity and discipline to maintain their lead.

Sudan thus secured their place in the 2025 Arab Cup and sent a strong message ahead of the final tournament.
