€150m release clause! Barcelona tie down their rising talent with a new contract
Barcelona are making sure one of their brightest young talents is going nowhere cheaply.
Details: Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim has formally signed his new contract with Barcelona, extending his stay at the Catalan club until 30 June 2030. The 18-year-old completed the signing in the presence of club president Joan Laporta and his agent Christian Emile. After putting pen to paper, Abdelkarim described the moment as a dream and spoke about his pride at representing Barcelona.
The most striking part of the agreement is the new release clause. According to SPORT, Barcelona have increased it tenfold from €15 million to €150 million as the club looks to protect the striker from outside interest.
Abdelkarim initially arrived from Al Ahly on loan in February 2026 before Barcelona exercised their purchase option in the summer. His progress was rapid: he finished preseason as Hansi Flick's top scorer with four goals and earned his competitive first-team debut against Rayo Vallecano on 31 August.
It is worth noting that Abdelkarim became the first Egyptian footballer ever to make a competitive appearance for Barcelona. According to the club, he is also only the third Egyptian player in La Liga history.
