Manchester City's huge summer rebuild could have looked very different.

Details: According to Bild, Manchester City had been pushing to sign 22-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic since March and were prepared to pay up to €100 million to secure his services.

The English club held concrete discussions with the player's representatives, while Bayern were informed of City's willingness to spend a huge sum on the midfielder. However, those contacts never developed into formal negotiations between the two clubs.

Pavlovic was reportedly flattered by Manchester City's interest and seriously considered the possibility of moving to England. In the end, though, the German international decided against the transfer and chose to remain in Munich.

City's interest came well before the club completed the signings of Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez later in the summer transfer window. Bouaddi joined from Lille, while Fernandez arrived from Chelsea as Manchester City significantly reshaped their midfield.

It is worth noting that Pavlovic is a product of Bayern Munich's academy, having progressed through the club's youth system before establishing himself in the first team and earning a place with the Germany national team.
