On Thursday, May 16, the preliminary squad for the German national team, which will compete in the 2024 European Championship, was unveiled.

Missing from the list of players was Bayern midfielder Leon Goretzka.

As reported by Bild, Goretzka's reaction was highly emotional when Julian Nagelsmann informed him of his decision on Tuesday. The midfielder held onto his dream of playing in the home Euro until the very end. He hoped that Nagelsmann would reach out to him and request a personal meeting before a decision was made - but that never materialized.

In the home Euro, Die Mannschaft will face Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland in the same group.

It's worth noting that 24 teams will vie for the title of the best national football team in Europe, divided into six groups. The current European champions are the Italian national team. The tournament will take place from June 14 to July 14.
