Wolfsburg and their head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl had high expectations placed on them before the season began, and it seems they are finally starting to deliver. After 12 rounds of Bundesliga action, Wolfsburg sit eighth in the table with 18 points, just two points away from the European qualification zone.
Last weekend, Wolfsburg caused the biggest upset of the Bundesliga round. While some might have predicted a win against RB Leipzig, few could have imagined such a resounding 5-1 victory, with Wolfsburg scoring three goals within the first 16 minutes.
In the previous DFB-Pokal round, Wolfsburg needed extra time to edge Borussia Dortmund 1-0, while in the opening round, they narrowly defeated Koblenz.
Hoffenheim, on the other hand, are enduring a difficult period. A team that qualified for European competitions last season currently sits 14th in the Bundesliga with 12 points, just two points above the relegation zone. Survival is now their primary focus.
Earlier this season, Hoffenheim parted ways with head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, replacing him with Christian Ilzer, who led Sturm Graz to the Austrian league title last season.
