On June 7, Estadi Ciutat de València (Valencia) will host the second leg of the La Liga 2 Promotion semi-final match for the right to play in the Primera, in which Levante will compete with Albacete. The battle will start at 21:00 CET.
Levante
The team was able to take the 6th place in the championship and played with dignity, like all Spanish clubs, in the Europa League a dozen years ago. At the same time, “Los Azulgranas” were repeatedly, but not for long, relegated to the Segunda. That’s what happened in the previous season. Everything was not OK from the very beginning and, despite a number of coaching rotations, the club left the division from penultimate place. The mentor was also replaced in the current draw, and there appeared Calleja. To be honest, there were misfires even under the rule of Javier. As a result, the May recession turned out to be especially painful, when “the Frogs” did not score and took only 1 point in two rounds. It is more than logical that it, even having won in both last matches of the season, remained only the 3rd in the standings. Moreover, Las Palmas took the same 72 points, but finished the tournament higher, in the 2nd place (and took a direct ticket to the Primera) only due to the fact that it had better performance in head-to-head matches in the form of an away goal (there were two draws: 1-1 and 0-0)! However, this did not prevent the team from starting the play-offs in a pretty confident way: it conceded already in the 18th minute of the game, which was “answered” three times.
Albacete
The club has got a good reputation in Spanish football. Although, generally speaking, its achievements are very modest – it is impossible to find even a dozen years of seasons at the level of the Primera. Moreover, “the Clockwork Cheese” held the 2021/2022 draw in the third division. To tell the truth, the performance was far from the best one – it finished the group stage only in the 3rd place – fortunately, it was followed by a successful play-off, which allowed the team to return to the Segunda. Being there, Rubén Albés’ wards were able to make a serious surprise, not only by getting points, which were enough to maintain the so-called “residence”, but also, due to a powerful finishing spurt, reaching the final 6th place – the higher mentioned result sent the team to the new play-offs and gave a chance to be promoted to the Primera. However, a home 1-3 defeat makes it scanty.
The statistics of head-to-head matches
Levante was able to win the away battle with a 3-2 score and achieved a goalless draw at the home arena in the “standard” draw of the Segunda.
Predictions
Bookmakers believe that Albacete will not be able to focus up and turn the tide. Thus, we bet that Levante will win again (odd: 1.77).
