On June 22, Adjarabet Arena (Batumi) will host the match of the 1st round of the Euro U21, in which Czech Republic will compete with England. The battle will start at 18:00 CET.
Czech Republic
The national team represents a country whose clubs do not disdain to earn on the education of the talents, which is followed by the subsequent transfers to neighbouring Germany or other top divisions. The current squad has got only one “legionnaire” so far, the goalkeeper of Stockport County, Jaroš. Zamburek from Viborg and Vorlicky from Atalanta appeared, but they were not included in the final list, although the first mentioned player had performed actively in the qualification. “The Little Lions” were able to win 7 out of 10 matches – only the British team was better there. Then they overcame Iceland in the play-offs, beating the opponent with a 2-1 score at the away arena, after which they retained this minimal advantage in České Budějovice – there were no goals in the return match. It goes without saying that Suchopárek’s wards will be the underdogs, along with the Israelis, in the quartet. Still, they certainly won’t capitulate without a fight.
England
The team could have been stronger if it included Guehi, Gallagher, Foden, Saka, Jadon Sancho and especially Bellingham. All of them were born in 2000 and later – thus, they are available according to their age. Nevertheless, the Irish specialist, Lee Carsley (his entire football career, however, was spent at a fairly high level in English clubs) has a strong squad. It failed in the qualification only in one battle, with Slovenia, gaining 1 point in 2 matches. At the same time, firstly, it won the other 8 matches, and secondly, the pointless game happened in the last round, when “the Young Lions” had already secured a ticket to the next youth Euro. Only defeats in friendly matches in 2023 are embarrassing, especially if we take into account the June 0-2 score in the home struggle with Japan. There is no doubt that the championship should be characterized by a completely different attitude.
The statistics of head-to-head matches
Speaking about the qualification, England had no problems with Czech Republic. It won with a 3-1 score in the home battle and achieved an away 2-1 result.
Predictions
Bookmakers believe that nothing will change in the confrontation between these opponents, and we agree with them. We bet on the victory of England with “a -1 goal handicap” (odd: 2.09).
