On June 15, several finals will take place at grass-court tennis tournaments around the world, including in Stuttgart. Here, Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz will battle for the title. Here’s my exclusive preview and prediction for this clash.
Alexander Zverev
Sascha Zverev needs little introduction—he’s long been among tennis’s elite and currently sits third in the world rankings. This year, he has claimed just one title so far, triumphing on clay in Munich. His main achievement of the season remains the Australian Open final, though he was soundly beaten there by Sinner.
In Stuttgart, the German hasn’t dropped a set yet, though it hasn’t all been smooth sailing: he beat Corentin Moutet 6-2, 7-6, and Brandon Nakashima 7-5, 6-4. The toughest test came in the semifinals against Ben Shelton, where Zverev had to grind through two tiebreaks—7-6, 7-6.
Taylor Fritz
The American currently holds the world number seven spot, but his results this season have been less than stellar. His best run came in Miami, where he lost a hard-fought semifinal to Mensik.
Fritz also hasn’t dropped a set at this tournament, despite facing tough opponents. He opened with a win over Quentin Halys—6-3, 7-6—then dispatched Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 7-6. In the semifinals, he overcame Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6. He needs a title here to solidify his place in the top 10.
Match facts
- Zverev has 32 wins and 11 losses this season.
- Fritz has won 20 out of 30 matches in 2025.
- The odds for this showdown: Zverev to win – 1.75, Fritz to win – 2.08.
Head-to-head
The two have plenty of history, having met 12 times before. Fritz leads the rivalry 7-5, including victories in their last four encounters.
Prediction
The bookmakers rate this as an even contest—no surprise, as it features two top-10 players. The odds suggest a drawn-out final, potentially with multiple tiebreaks and either player capable of claiming the trophy. I see value in backing Zverev for a straight win here.
