The ninth edition of the T20 Cricket World Cup is gaining momentum. The next game day according to UTC will start in Providence, where Afghanistan and Uganda will meet. Dailysports analysts have prepared for you a prediction for this match.
Afghanistan
In other sports, meeting Afghanistan at major tournaments is often considered exotic. However, in cricket, it is one of the most stable teams in the T20 discipline. Since 2010, Afghanistan has consistently participated in the final stage of the tournament. However, alas, there are no great achievements so far and have never played in the playoffs: first it was the last places, in 2021 for the first time in history managed to finish T20 in the first half of the table. And in the previous edition of the tournament, the team finished in 12th place among the 16 participants.
Afghanistan made it to the T20 2024 thanks to the current ranking: according to it, the team is ranked quite high in tenth place.
On the eve of the World Cup, Afghanistan played a sparring match against Scotland, winning by 55 runs.
Uganda
For the representatives of Africa, the current tournament will be the debut in history: this can already be considered a great achievement. Not least the expansion of the final stage of the tournament to 20 teams helped them to break into the top twenty. A change in the format of qualification and the two vouchers given to teams from Africa made Uganda one of the winners of the selection process.
“Cricket Cranes” early in their history were part of the teams that represented East and Central Africa. However, in 1998, Uganda separated into an independent organization, starting their journey virtually from scratch.
Uganda first participated in a T20 level tournament in 2007. It was a qualifier which Cricket Cranes failed to qualify for. They also failed to reach the final stage in the next seven attempts. It was not until 2024 that the African team finally conquered this pinnacle.
Interesting facts and history of personal meetings
- The 43-year-old player Frank Nsubuga made his international debut even before the Uganda national team was organized. Today he can take to the field in a match already in the composition of his native country.
- Afghanistan and Uganda have never met at the official level.
Afghanistan vs Uganda prediction
This should not be a high-level match, because we realize that Afghanistan and Uganda are not the main contenders for the playoffs of the tournament. Obviously, Afghanistan have higher chances of doing so, while for the Cranes, the first priority is to familiarize themselves with an event of such a level as T20.
Given that this match will be Uganda's first at such a high level, I assume that the team will need time to get used to the World Cup atmosphere. Therefore, the start for the Africans should be slow. My bet is Uganda's individual run total in the first over less than 5 for 1.576.
