Promise David Targeted by Leeds and Lille as Canadian Striker Draws Elite European Interest

Canadian striker Promise David has emerged as a major transfer target ahead of the summer window, with Leeds United and Lille among the clubs vying for his signature. According to MOT Leeds News, the Union Saint-Gilloise forward is admired at Elland Road as Daniel Farke's side prepares for a Premier League return. While no formal move has been made, sources indicate that Leeds are watching him closely.
“He’d fit perfectly in Premier League football,” Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri told the outlet, citing David’s size, pace, and power. The 22-year-old has notched 21 goals and 5 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season, leading USG to the brink of a Belgian title.
Meanwhile, L’Équipe reports that Lille are seriously considering David to succeed Jonathan David, who has confirmed his departure after five prolific years. The symmetry is striking: both Canadians, both Davids, both breakout stars in Belgium. Jonathan David arrived at Lille in 2020 from Gent with 37 goals in two seasons—Promise could replicate that arc.
Other Ligue 1 clubs like Rennes and Strasbourg, as well as Serie A sides, are also interested. But Lille appears the most “concrete” option, and Promise has reportedly made clear to his representatives that he’s ready for the next step.
If he scores twice in the final two games, he’ll match Jonathan David’s 18-goal tally in his final Belgian season—a poetic sendoff if he’s indeed bound for northern France. Whether it’s the Premier League or Ligue 1, Promise David seems destined for a bigger stage.
