Orlando Pirates Held to 1-1 Draw by Stade d’Abidjan in CAF Champions League
Orlando Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Stade d’Abidjan in their Group C CAF Champions League match at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday evening. The South African side will be disappointed by the result, having dominated much of the game, especially in the first half.
After Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled in the box, Evidence Makgopa converted a penalty kick to give the Pirates the lead shortly before halftime. The hosts, however, rallied in the second half and tied the score in the 53rd minute. Adama Traore's free kick was headed in by Ousmane Meite to tie the score.
Despite further chances for Pirates, including a fine save by Drissa Bamba to deny Makgopa, the game ended 1-1. Pirates now sit at the top of Group C with five points, while Stade d’Abidjan remain bottom with one point.
The return fixture will take place in Soweto in early 2025.
