Kaizer Chiefs’ Season Saver? Lilepo Emerges as New Fan Favourite

Kaizer Chiefs may be enduring one of their most turbulent seasons in recent memory, but Congolese winger Makabi Glody Lilepo has emerged as a rare success story.
From Unknown Arrival to Chiefs’ Main Man
Signed from France’s Valenciennes FC in January, Lilepo joined with little hype and few expectations. Yet, in just a few months, the 27-year-old has become Chiefs’ top scorer, finding the net six times in 18 matches across all competitions.
His record — one goal every three games — is unmatched at Naturena this season. Operating mainly on the right flank, Lilepo’s direct style and sharp finishing have made him a crowd favourite, with fans chanting his name at every touch.
Nabi’s Trust Paying Off
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who reportedly tried to sign Lilepo at previous clubs, believes the Congolese winger is just getting started.
“He’s not at his best yet,” Nabi admitted after Lilepo’s equaliser against Sekhukhune United. “Once he gets a full pre-season, he’ll offer even more. He’s a winger who can end the season with 10 goals.”
Goal Threat in Numbers
Lilepo’s six goals have come from 1,439 minutes, averaging one every 240 minutes. That’s better than any other Chiefs attacker.
