Kaizer Chiefs Held by Chippa as Top-Eight Battle Heats Up

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Chippa United on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, a result that keeps both sides locked in a tight battle for a top-eight finish in the South African Premiership.
Chiefs Fail to Build on Momentum
Following their dramatic comeback win over Mamelodi Sundowns, expectations were high for Amakhosi to build momentum. However, despite dominating possession and goal attempts, Nasreddine Nabi’s side struggled to find the net for the fourth time in five league games.
Nabi made key changes, handing Zitha Kwinika his first start of the season and reintroducing Tashreeq Morris, but the Chiefs’ attack lacked the cutting edge. Wandile Duba and Morris both came close in the first half, while Duba again threatened with a header in the 62nd minute.
Chippa Extend Unbeaten Run
Chippa United showed early promise, winning three corners in the opening minutes and pushing for a penalty in the 25th minute after a challenge on Justice Chabalala. Although denied by the referee, they remained dangerous on the break, with Sirgio Kammies missing a clear chance to score.
The Chilli Boys are now unbeaten in four matches and matched Chiefs on 30 points, separated only by goal difference.
What’s Next?
Chiefs, currently eighth, must win their next clash against relegation-threatened Marumo Gallants to stay in the top-half race and qualify for the lucrative R10-million early-season knockout competition. Chippa face a tough trip to Stellenbosch.
With league hopes dashed, Chiefs’ final shot at silverware comes on May 10, when they meet Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.
