Orlando Pirates put up a good fight in this afternoon's Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, but the match ended with the Pirates losing the Soweto derby to Kaizer Chiefs 2-1, with Nasrudin Nabi leading his side to their first title in ten years - the league title in 2015.

This will be the last final for Spanish coach Jose Rivero, who has decided he will leave the club at the end of this season, having won the last two Nedbank titles for the Buccaneers.

What did Jose Rivero have to say about the game?

"It was an ugly match from start to finish—very little quality football on display. The game got off to a tough start once again, with an early penalty giving them the lead, though we fought back. I believe we were the better side for most of the second half, but there was hardly any real flow to the game—just constant interruptions and fouls.

For a brief 5-10 minute spell, Chiefs outplayed us, took the lead, and despite our late efforts, we couldn’t turn it around. This was our sixth final together, but we can’t win them all. Credit to the club and the players for their hard work in the competition. Today is painful, but we’ll return stronger.

It wasn’t our day. I won’t go into the details of why, but we struggled to find the spaces we needed in our buildup play. Sometimes, that’s just how it goes."

This is what Riveiro told SuperSport TV.
