The 40-year-old Leicester native, Mark Selby, triumphed at the invitational Championship League tournament, which took place in his hometown.

In the decisive match, Selby defeated 28-year-old Joe O'Connor with a score of 3-1, who is yet to secure trophies at the professional level. While O'Connor managed to stage a comeback from 0-55 and win the first frame, the following three frames were dominated by Selby.

For Selby, this title marks his first of the current season. It guarantees him a spot in the final Champion of Champions event, where Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump, Gary Wilson, and Mark Allen have already qualified. The tournament is set to take place this autumn.

This victory in the Championship League is a debut for Selby in his career. It's his first title since last year, when he won the WST Classic tournament.

It's worth noting that Selby finished second in the group stage. Currently, he occupies the fifth position in the world rankings.
