Ahead of the European Championship, set to take place this summer in Germany, many fans of the English national team are discussing which players can lead their team to victory.

The head coach, Gareth Southgate, has already mentioned having a plethora of quality players at his disposal, particularly in the midfield.

Amidst the excellent performance of Kobbie Mainoo for Manchester United, he has been touted for a place in the national team, despite being just 18 years old.

However, Manchester United and England legend Rio Ferdinand believes that the midfield trio should consist of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Declan Rice.

During an interview with talkSPORT, he was asked to name the three best midfielders for the Three Lions at EURO 2024, to which he replied:

"I'd be consistent. I'd play Declan Rice and say to Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden: "You two, just go and do your job and win us the Euros".

They will win us the Euros if they are given a bit of freedom. If we do that, we will win".

Expanding on Foden and Bellingham, he added:

"These are two great players you can release, just leave them, give them a bit of freedom.

We have enough players to allow others to score goals and win matches".

Ferdinand's selection of these three players is not without merit, as they have had an outstanding season for their respective clubs. Jude Bellingham, following his move to Real Madrid, has become a true star for Los Blancos and sits atop the list of La Liga's top scorers. Phil Foden has become a key player for Manchester City and has scored nineteen goals this season in the Premier League. Declan Rice is one of the leaders at Arsenal and consistently earns a place in the team's starting lineup, leading them to the top of the Premier League this season.
