The Japanese player Shohei Ohtani has achieved a historic milestone among Japanese players in MLB.

As reported on the Los Angeles Dodgers' page, the baseball player has hit more home runs than any other Japanese player in MLB.

Incidentally, Ohtani holds the record for pitching speed among pitchers in the Japanese professional league - 165 km/h (102.5 mph). Renowned for his prowess both on the mound and at the plate, he has drawn comparisons to versatile athletes such as Babe Ruth, Bullet Rogan, and Bo Jackson. He is often hailed as not only one of the best baseball players of the modern era, but potentially in the annals of the sport's history.

It's worth noting that in December 2023, Ohtani signed a 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers worth $700 million - the largest deal in the history of sports. Ohtani surpassed the contract sum of two prominent contemporary footballers - Lionel Messi with Barcelona (2017-2021) and Kylian Mbappé with Paris Saint-Germain.

Additionally, Ohtani represented the Japanese national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The final of the World Baseball Classic became one of the most celebrated baseball matches in history. Its climax came with Ohtani's strikeout of his Los Angeles Angels teammate and captain of the US national team, Mike Trout, securing a 3-2 victory for his team.
